m, Dasyphyllum diacanthoides, Lomatia dentata y Aextoxicon
punctatum; 3) en los 1130 m, Maytenus magellanica; 4)
en los 1210 m, Nothofagus oblicua y Maytenus magellanica;
In
a Nothofagus alpina (Poepp.et Endl.) Oerst. forest, situated
in the Niblinto Forest Reserve, Malleco, Chile, was studied the
local distribution of the species in a altitudinal gradient, stablishing
different types of vegetation according to the floristic composition
of the canopy.
The most significative species were Nothofagus alpina (Poepp.et
Endl.) Oerst and Nothofagus dombeyi (Mirb) Bl. The plants
that defined the especific vagetational type were found in the mid
strata of the forest.
They were the following:
Lomatia
dentata;
At 980 m.o.s.l.: Dasyphyllum diacanthoides, Laurelia Philippiana,
Aextoxicon punctatum and Lomatia dentata.
At 1.130 m.o.s.l.: Maytenus magallanica.
At 1.210 m.o.s.l.: Nothofagus oblicua and Maytenus magellanica,
and
At 1.290 m.o.s.l.: Maytenus Magellanica, with the the increasing
N. dombeyi and the decreasing of N. alpina.
The understory floristic composition was dominated by Chusquea
coleu Desv. absoluted, with a light proportion of Gaultheria
phyllirreifolia. It was found important in the understory composition
of each altitudinal floor, the participation of the juvenile individuals
from the overstory, with the exception of Nothofagus dombeyi
and Nothofagus oblicua that had nul contribution.
There are not significant differences in the canopy analysis of
the overstory and the understory, at the different altitudinal floors,
except at 1.290 m.o.s.l. were the canopy was very low. Although
the number of species were different at both levels, the covering
was support by the larger individual participation.
