acorde con el microclima mediterráneo, es el bosque esclerófilo;
Luma chequen, Drimys winteri, Escallonia revoluta y Rubus
ulmifolius.

A phytosociological
study of the mirtaceous swamp forest growing is sesonally flooded
conditions in the preandean mountain range, intermediate depression
and in the littoral plain of the Maule region in Central Chile was
carried out. The zonal vegetation according to the mediterranean
climate is the sclerophyllous forest the swamp forest are azonal
and determinated by a excess of soil moisture.
The
initial vegetation table with 194 samples and 146 species is used
to analize the floristic composition and the frequency, cover and
importance values of each species. The phytogeographical origin
and the life forms of the spacies are determinates. A summarized
table with 82 vegetation samples and 134 species is analized with
multivariate statistical methods of ordination and classification.
All
the studied stands correspond to the Luma-Myrceugenietum exsuccae
("Hualves" the central Chile) vicariant community of the
Blepharocalyo-Myrceugenietum exsuccae ("Hualves"
of South-central Chile) both with azonal character. The more important
species are Myrceugenia exsucca, Luma chequen, Drimys winteri,
Escallonia revoluta and Rubus ulmifolius. High percentages
of alloctonous species and hemicriptophytes indicate anthropic intervention
light and soil moisture are the more important factors in the distribution
of the species. The first one indicates high fragmentation of the
stands. The best conservated stands grow in the pre-andean mountain
range. Finally , the syntaxonomical position and the relictual or
azonal characteristics of the forest are discussed and compared
with the swamp forests of the South-Cental Chile.
