ENRAIZAMIENTO DE ESTACAS DE Fitzroya cupressoides
Y Pilgerodendron uvifera

F.

Between
late november 1990 and mid-october 1991, cuttings of alerce (Fitzroya
cupressoides) and cipres de las Guaytecas (Pilgerodendron
uvifera) were set for rooting in a greenhouse with no artificial
heating or mist system, located in the Xth Región.
In
both species four concentrations of indolbutyric acid in powder
plus beniate and Rootone F, a commercial rooting chemical, were
tested. Nursery soil mixed with sand and leaf compost were used
as a substrate. In Cipres de las Guaytecas, rooting ranged from
60 to 100 % in the auxin treatments, whereas in the control it reached
20%. In Alerce these values were between 35.5 and 66.7% and 37.7%
respectively.
These
results indicate that, on the one hand, it is fesible to propagate
the Cipres de las Guaytecas by cuttings and that, on the other hand,
it is probable that the age and/or position of the twigs on the
tree are the factors responsible for the smaller percentage and
inferior quality of rooting of Alerce cuttings. The latter is true
if these results are compared with previous ones obtained under
the same ambient and substrate conditions for the control and for
Rootone F.
