The
objetive of this study was to determinated the amount of canopy
rain interception, the througfall, the stemtlow, the net and efective
rain precipitation, the runoff, the soil moisture and its variation.
In addition, the real evapotranspiration was determined for different
vegetal coverts growing in a same habitat during the period without
drainage.
This
study was developed in the coast mountain range of Chile, since
October-1991 until September-1992. The vegetal coverts studied
were a second growth deciduous forest of Nothofagus obliqua
(Mirb), and two exotic plantations of Pinus radiata (D.
Don) with and without management.
To
measure the components of water balance, tested methodologic are
used. To evaluate the litter interception a new quantification
system was used; this system simulated rains on known litter volume
obtained in the field.
The
results showed that the proportion that efectivelly reached the
organic soil was greater in the natural forest (83,5%), smaller
in the unmanaged plantation (70,8%), and a intermediate value
in managed plantation (80,2%). Canopy interception showed the
greatest influence in these variations with 26,55; 17.65 and 11,4%
of total precipitation in the unmanaged plantation, managed plantation
and the native forest respectively. Nothofagus obliqua
showed a greater consumption of total rain precipitation than
pine plantations during the period without drainage. Additionally,
showed a better control of the water distribution and water stocks
regulation in the forest ecosystem.
